Embed web pages in M-Files

Display external reports and web pages directly in M-Files tabs — no switching between systems.

When everything isn’t in one place

Switching between browser tabs to access external tools, dashboards, or documentation, just to complete a single task in M-Files?

You know how it goes. Context-switching breaks focus and slows down even the simplest workflows.

What if you could help clients bring all those key resources — dashboards, reports, or web apps — directly into the M-Files interface?

Display external content directly in M-Files

With Extension Kit Core, you can embed external reports, dashboards, or any web page that supports embedding* directly into M-Files.

Persistent dashboards stay visible in a dedicated tab for all users, regardless of the object they’re viewing. Great for static resources like internal portals, support pages, or your company's website.

Floating dashboards appear conditionally based on object properties. For example, if each object contains a link to an external product page, you can display that page dynamically in a tab whenever the object is opened. This allows for contextual previews tied to the metadata of the current object.

All of this happens inside M-Files — no custom development needed.

Use cases

Display a preview of a product’s web page directly inside M-Files based on a property value — useful for organizations managing product records that link to online catalogs.

Embed interactive reports or charts from BI or analytics platforms that support iframe embedding, enabling users to monitor KPIs without leaving M-Files.

Provide a live view of document signing status from third-party solutions like mSign, directly within the document’s tab.

Technical notes

  • This feature is supported only in the new M-Files Web and new M-Files Desktop clients.
  • *Some websites (e.g., Google Maps, YouTube) may restrict embedding due to browser security policies.
